Pain acts as the leader of the group, though he and Konan secretly report to Tobi. He has been adamant that the group can fulfill their desires if they finally possess the bijuu. He also was responsible for summoning the huge statue which holds the spirits of bijuu withdrawn from Jinchuuriki. Pain is also calm and tries to bring order to the group. It is said he's never lost a battle.

Sasuke recruited Karin into his 'Snake' team because of her uncanny ability to track individuals through chakra over long distances and with high accuracy. Karin was one of Orochimaru's suboordiantes and head of the North Hideout where many of Orochimaru's Cursed Seal experiments took place. She remained loyal to Orchimaru even after it was unclear whether he was defeated by Sasuke. In truth, Karin wants to travel with Sasuke alone, especially since Suigetsu constantly gets on her nerves. She has demonstrated a temperment similar to Sakura and may also possess enhanced strength and possibly medical ninjutsu skills.
